Home Detox: Improving Air Quality

“When your environment is clean you feel happy, motivated, and healthy.” ~ Lailah Gifty Akita

Indoor Toxins & Pollutants

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indoor air can be between two to five times as polluted as outdoor air. The World Health Organization has reported that household air pollution is one of the world’s greatest environmental health risks. Many home furnishings and products (e.g., mattresses, floors, furniture, cleaning supplies, clothing, and cosmetics) may contain toxins.

Numerous toxins are not seen or felt; the average household contains 500-1000 different types of toxins. A recent, environmental toxin study indicated that phenol resin and flame retardant (often used in furniture) were found in home dust particles. These toxins accumulate from building materials, furniture, and household products.

Health Risks

Research has shown that “people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors…the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors.” The groups of people most susceptible to the effects of indoor air pollution include the young, the elderly, and the chronically ill. Long-term health effects include poor memory and concentration, erratic behavior, word confusion, mood issues, headaches, vertigo.

Creating a Healthy Home

A home detox with careful product choices can significantly reduce exposure to indoor toxins and pollutants. Our comprehensive assessment and report provides clear information to reduce risks and make healthy changes. Living Sanctuary: Heart and Home provides step-by-step guidance to maximize home health for you and your family.
