Topophilia

Topophilia (From Greek topos “place” and -philia, “love of”) is a strong sense of place, which often becomes mixed with the sense of cultural identity among certain people and a love of certain aspects of such a place.

The term topophilia was coined by the geographer Yi-Fu Tuan of the University of Wisconsin and is defined as the affective bond with one’s environment—a person’s mental, emotional, and cognitive ties to a place.

Our natural way of being in relationship includes Nature and a nature-infused home/living environment help us reset from everyday experiences that may contribute to an elevated stress response, mind-body imbalances/dysregulation and dis-ease as well as emotion overwhelm and trauma.

Studies have shown that people who love their environment are:

  • Drawn to restorative spaces that benefit their health and help them enjoy a high quality of life.
  • Associate their environment with feelings of connection or belonging, safety, comfort, and well-being.
  • Enjoy a connection that makes the home a uniquely distinctive, special, preferred and meaningful place with intrinsic value.

Our inner space also can co-create our home/living environment in a similar way. As we holistically heal, we experience harmonics, coherency, and synchronicities from balancing and restoring relationships. This contributes to a cohesive inner and home/living environment that is calming, peaceful, and restorative…sacred space.

Home is Where the Heart is…

“It is so important to seed our environment with things that speak to us and support us in all we are capable of being.” ~ Xorin Balbes

Our home is an intimate, living environment that ideally offers enjoyable restorative space to feel validated and secure. The heart and inherent beauty of a home is in its ability to uplift, console, and contribute to the important things in life as well as holding personal space and the relationships of a partner, family, and friends. Home positively affect our mood, emotions, ideas, and behavior as well as making our hectic lifestyles easier and efficiently conserving energy and financial resources. Our home environment supports our needs, goals, and aspirations as well as health and wellbeing; enjoyment; personal development; and life changes, challenges, and transitions.

The aesthetics of the architectural design, features, décor, outdoor landscape and vivid experiences create a connection that deepens over time. Repository of memories, experiences, enjoyment, and happiness. The home becomes an extension and a reflection of us.

A restorative home environment supports healthier living and creates a balanced, peaceful, and inspiring atmosphere meeting the diverse needs of you and your family members (ages and activities). Natural settings within the home provide regular emotional-mental-spiritual refuge for privacy, quiet, peace, and inner reflection. Calming spaces help to relieve stress and mental fatigue, balance emotions, problem solve, and prioritize goals.

Serene living spaces relieve stress and mental fatigue; while helping to balance emotions, problem solve, and inspire authentic expression.

Harmonizing, natural home design helps reduce the carbon footprint and contribute to health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
